Hey Seniors! Please remember what Sir has said today. We have to be a GOOOOOD examples for the juniors. Remember, when you receive a score to sight read, always look out for : Time Signature, Key Signature, Dynamics, Articulation and Coda. Don't always look out for NOTES. But also look out for those 5 other things. We need to push ourselves harder, for even higher standards! We cannot always remain at a same point, we have to move on! :) Let's achieve for the better! Always GIVE IN YOUR BEST during practices, improve day by day, practices by practices! :))))))))))

A few things to highlight :

1. Please pick up any litters you see in the band room!
2. Clear the dustbin, that includes CHANGING OF PLASTIC BAG TOO.
3. NO ONE is allowed to TOUCH any scores(be it photocopied or not) without the Librarians'(Melrose, Binbin, JingYi, JingYong) consent.
4. Be PUNCTUAL for all practices.
5. Going for a Holiday? Having tutorials? Or whatsoever, please remember to take a *leave form* :)
6. Brush up on your drills.
7. Play any pieces with JOY :) (but that doesn't mean forgetting all the articulations and dynamics!)

Please practice your instruments! Even though SYF is over, we should be preparing for SYF 2013. DO NOT EVER take ANYTHING for granted. Time flies really fast :)) Practice your running notes, accidentals, go up another octave (Brass), pitching of notes, getting a clearer and round sound, get a loud sound (but not by blasting), improve your SIGHT-READING, practice your scales (Seniors, you should know 5 scales! Remember Sir told us this? Where has the ~tradition~ gone to???), practice your tonguing, slurring, legato, staccato, accent, and anything you can practice on! Always remember this: How good the section is, depends on the weakest player :)

Also, please keep up with your discipline! Drills are an important part of band :) Let's all improve together and achieve for better :)

START BRINGING BACK YOUR INSTRUMENTS!! (ESPECIALLY Clarinet & Flute)
SYF IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER, ONLY LESS THAN 3 MONTHS LEFT.

Of course, don't just bring back your instruments, you also have to practice!

ALWAYS pick up litters you see, you all won't want to have a dirty environment right? Treat the band room as your own house.
LISTEN to instructions! DON'T take things for granted. When you are given a time to do something, complete it within the time given. ASK for extra time if you don't have enough.
DON'T TAKE YOUR OWN SWEET TIME.

- Don't throw ribbons, pins whatever hair accessories you all get from Band for CONCERTSSSS.
- Give your BEST behaviour.
- Show good examples to your Sec 1s.
- Be RESPONSIVE.
- Don't talk when someone's talking in front.
- Listening to the speaker BUT no one seem to apply what the speaker had said.
- BRING your instrument back home EVERYDAY to practice your SYF pieces. ESPECIALLY THOSE SMALL INSTRUMENTS
-For Clarinet & Flute, take note of bar 199.... All the running notes.
Most importantly and the BASIC, ARTICULATION.

On December 19th , Mus'art winds will be having a concert titled "Rus Vegas!"
Location will be at the YST Concert Hall at the NUS.
Tickets are at $12 and $15
Please support Mr Shah (2nd Clarinet) and Danish (Bass Clarinet)
Details on where to meet and how to get there will be told 3 days before the concert.

We will not tolerate any bullshit you people say.
Please come 30 min(9.30am) earlier for Saturday's practice! If you're late, we seriously WON'T hesitate to do any SEVERE punishment. We won't tolerate nonsense SUCH AS bus late, raining(if it rains) and etcetera. Even if you're ex-co member, Section leader or whatever leader, punishment will still be carried on. Please. Hello.

For the juniors and those who ordered new uniforms, your band uniforms are already here! The shirt, pants and tie costs $66 altogether. Please bring the money on Friday (12.11.10). You will only receive it after making the payment to Mdm Rosina. It also depends when you will get it cos she is not the teacher in charge for Friday but Saturday. But still, just bring it on Friday in case.

The synthetic valve oils and Tuning Slide Greases are missing! Not even one left in the drawer. Those (especially brasses) who took it and put it in their cases for their own convenience, please return it back to the drawer as it does not belong to only you. If you want a personal one, buy it yourself. We might be doing a surprise inspection on your cases. Be prepared!

Hey guys.SYF is just around the corner. We only have 5 months and 1 week left. Which is 100+ days. Please be at your RIGHT attitude (: Make sure you practice your instrument. Get your NOTES, TUNE, DYNAMICS right, these are the basics! (: Some of your *SYF mentality* isn't there yet.
Please do not be late for band too. It's really very irritating to see people being late for band. If band starts at 9am, please come 10 min earlier to set up your instrument and GET READY BY 9am. If you haven't set up your instrument, we WON'T hesitate to start the warm up. Punishment will be given to those who are late. Don't always think we will do pumpings (: You will never know what other punishments we can come up with. We have to be like Fadhli/Dorothy/Joanne's batch! Let's follow their steps and work hard for SYF (:

Hey bandies!

i hope all of you have enjoyed yourselves during the band exchange programme and also learning some good 'tips' from Sir and Ma'ams there! Unfortunately, we can't get a picture with them! But well... at least you guys learnt something! Articulation.. Dynamics.. Notes.. Everything! Most of you are inspired right? Continue being inspired and work towards their tone, playing and all!

I also hope you all learnt something new from Sir(Ralph Hultgren)! Yeap, he is good humorous funny-strict. Remember to stay focused! Warm up your air, your diaphragm, your mind, your WHOLE body! Always watch the conductor! And one thing i noticed, is that all of you weren't really that focused. Discipline is dropping, so yeap you all know what to do (:

Hari Raya Band Outing 2010

Hello Band !
This coming Sunday , there will be a band outing to celebrate the Hari Raya season !
We'll be going around the east side of S'pore,visiting five houses on that day.
Mr Khai,Filzah,Lukman,Asri and Danish. All in that order.
All band members of every race (Chinese, Indian, Eurasian,African and even Malays) are invited to this event.

Dress-code :
1. Malay traditional costumes ( If don't have borrow from a friend )
2. Acceptable clothing (Nothing flashy)
3. Formal Clothing

*Everyone is expected to wear number 1
*Underwear is considered not acceptable

Attending the outing is not compulsory as exams are near.Meeting place will be at
Tampines Mrt platform (2nd level) where the lift is at.Do have your own small meetings
beforehand so it will be easier when we will all be meeting at the Mrt platform.
The time is 1:45pm , be punctual. End time is not confirmed.

At the end of the day , this outing will bring us closer together as band.
Hari Raya isn't always about money, its about the bond.

3/9/10 will definitely be a memorable day right? HAHAHA! Juniors, despite being nervous, you all still put up a good show (: I'm sure the audience enjoyed both your music and gimmicks :D By the way, it was nice to see you all watching me, good good!
Remember when you all make your first sound with your instruments? You these little ones, have definitely grown. I'm sure you guys have learn a lot from this JBF right? We, as seniors, are extremely proud of you guys.

Hello.

Just to keep this blog updated. For all who went for the bonding session just now, thank you very much for spending time with your seniors/juniors and trying to get to know more about each other. The games we played did teach us a few lessons: to trust your instincts(carpark catching) and honesty(ice & water) Sorry for almost getting you all into trouble. I'm really happy to see that many of you showed concern and care towards the people who were injured like Lukman and Sean. Keep it up, that's how it should be. And some other points to add on :

Juniors, please work doubly hard from now onwards as your junior band festival is at stake. Please note that it is NOT confirmed and Mr De can just take it away from you anytime. Prove to your seniors that you can be better than them last year or the previous years. Please put in a lot of effort to improve yourself because all the seniors would definitely want you to enjoy yourself like how we did last year. Seniors, guide your juniors and teach them properly. HEY GUYS, sorry for not updating for long, I've not been receiving any updates. So therefore no updates. Please remember what Sir has told us, less facebook, more practice, more study. SYF is just right ahead, we have to work even harder. When we're playing pieces, I don't see any sign of dynamics going on, it's just like plain playing. Remember to look up, center and down of your score, look out for key signatures and dynamics. Every player has their own weakness.

How good the section is, depends on the weakest player. Don't ever be too complacent. The more complacent we are, the less achievement we get. Always think *WE HAVE TO IMPROVE EVEN MORE*

Hope you all listened to what Wei Chang said during band practice.. We shouldn't always count on Sean. We HAVE to respect the leaders, seniors and EVERYONE not when you want to respect who, then you respect who. Percussion section, please be more active and organised. Everyone has to play apart in band, not only the leaders. Don't think you're good, you're not good as a section. The band is as good as the weakest player. If you think the band sound is good now, it's not up to standard YET. We have to work even harder to achieve better. We cannot be complacent, we have to always think to improve MORE. Dear LYSB Members,

It was very heart wrenching to do the things that I was forced to do, but if there comes a time i have to do it, i will do it, for the sake of LYSB.

LYSB has given me the best 10 years of my life. I've met and known many of you from you were just an innocent teenager breaking out of the shell, to a full grown mature adult (for those who are working side by side with me as Alumni, to call their own). Therefore, it is in my best interest to keep the flame of LYSB through all time.

As ive mentioned in the incident earlier on, I have always been task to do the dirty job, being the "Bad Guy". For those who understands my position, you know how I am in Band and outside Band and I'll always show the clear line between these two. And for those who are clueless, and of course, those ignorant, let me enlighten you.

1) Discipline in School
It has come to me through feedbacks from teachers, school, other members of the school, and of course the Alumni in a general view, that members of LYSB are ill disciplined in school. This saddens me as I have always known, despite the known "discipline situation" of the school, that members of LYSB are always clear and empowered to uphold the name of LYSB wherever you go. It is for a simple fact that the Band is in high profile for a number of things, in which that will call for another conversation, and also that members wear the Band Badge,and for your info, is one of the longest insignia of any CCA in the school.
I thus implore you to maintain the image of LYSB always whenever and wherever you are in school or wearing the school related attire. Please clean up after yourselves whenever you have occupied a place, and to clean up your mess after you have eaten. Whether or not the school discipline is such a way, or your friends do it, YOU are a member of LYSB and let it be shown to everyone that you are mature enough to distinguish right or wrong.

2) Discipline in Band
All of you know that the discipline is bad in the Band itself. Juniors being rude to direct seniors, not giving due respect to the one conducting in front, not being PROACTIVE towards any tasks given to you by anyone.
You have given your best behavior to Sir whenever he is around, but whenever he is not, the Band showed the worst image possible. Talking when an instructor is speaking in front, not having PENCILS to note things down, not playing when your section is specifically asked to play. Imagine you are in his shoes, how can he control a band of 60 people unless he have to shout?
Take a time to think. Your actions now in Band will lead to a habit, and your Sec1s will inherit it sooner or later, and in the later part, you seniors will start complaining about how ill disciplined the juniors are. As what you have said, Monkey See, Monkey Do. Stop this habit now and you will see the improvements in the coming practices. Take note of the sections that are always noisy and remind them. Each of us have a part to play in this.

3) Respect
Respect should come in all level. Im sure all of you have heard the phrase "You need to give others respect before others give you their respect". It works both ways, but it boils down to one, always give everyone the fullest respect you can give first, before you get their respect.
Im aware of the things happening, like seniors not acting appropriately, being a pain in the rear bottom. Seniors (Sec 3 and 4s), this is a feedback given by your direct juniors. And Juniors, a feedback from your seniors is that you are not respecting them and are rude to them. Please give each other your full respect and things will be fine.

4) Drills
I shall not elaborate. It is just HORRIBLE!!!!! Brush it up. If other CCAs are horrible, doesnt mean LYSB should be horrible too (to avoid any defamation suits filed against me, please note on keyword "IF"). You can always find a day to have an hour drills a week to brush up on drills.

5) Attendance
For those who need to go for lunch, please fall in FIRST, get your attendance marked, and then go for a quick lunch of 15-20mins.
And for those unable to make it, please inform Michelle and Sir personally via SMS or in person in advance at most before the Band falls in, that you are not able to make it for each practice, and state a reason. This will allow Michelle or any future Secretaries to do their work efficiently. They are conformed to a certain standard procedure to do their job, so please do your part and make things all systematically.

Lastly, i treat each and everyone of you as a respectable LYSB member, as my own siblings. I care for your general well being, your interest, your studies and your health. But there is definitely comes a time when i need to put my feet down, i will do what it takes.

All Alumni coming in to the School or for Band are also under my charge, as well as Khai's, as I am one of the key personnels in the School and I am spearheading the direction of the Alumni and the School. Please understand my position.

For those who know me well enough, they know who I am. As Celine have mentioned in the previous post, "Dont wanna get scoldings, be in your best". Thats all I'm asking from all of you. Definitely you wouldnt want to get scoldings right? If not from me, you will definitely get it from Sir. And you know you dont want that right?

Let us start things afresh from the next practice onwards, and let us have the most memorable years in LYSB.

HEY GUYS, don't feel pissed/sad or whatsoever because of today, Ghazali scolded us for LOYANG SECONDARY SYMPHONIC BAND'S, and for our sake. Yes the 4 main things.
1) Discipline.
2) Respect.
3) In band, in school
4) Drills.
In SCHOOL or even in BAND, your discipline MUST be good. And weren't giving respect to Mr shah. RESPECT all teachers, conductors, seniors, everybody. DRILLS can be improved, it's only if you want to do it or not. When Mr shah is taking us, PLEASE PAY FULL ATTENTION TO HIM kay :D

For no. 1 - we can pack it up.

For no. 2 - clean the fans, dirt are ''growing'' and clean everything.

For no. 3 - A pole will be at cupboards to hang blazers.

For no. 4 - Foldable stands should be placed properly. We will get toyogo cupboards, one pulled out cupboard per section. So that it'll be more organised and easier to get it.

For no. 5 - Photocopied scores should be kept in your files, don't lost it. Paper - trees. No trees, less oxygen, less shade.

Please appreciate what you're having ; air conditioned room, a storeroom in bandroom.
